Now, if you have been reading along you will know that I spoke about shooting “static” detail items vs. shooting them with more meaning from Julie’s images. In fact, I have dedicated a whole blog post here on this very interesting topic! Honestly, I’d rather be doing more of that on the wedding day then this. However, just look at this ring shot that was captured during a Wedding at Epic Hotel Miami. I mean, this could be the poster child for that ring manufacture for a long time to come. The crazy thing.. is that I shot this in about 30 seconds on top of a glass table at the Epic Hotel. Yeah, there are no "special effects" or anything like that going on here. This was all captured in the camera just like you see. How? Well, I used two off camera lights one on each side of the rings. SUPER close to the rings. This way I have controlled the "fall off" of light. (this means that the light does not spread to the background, or anywhere else I cant control). Then, I set the exposure in the camera to something crazy like f/18 and this does two things. 1. It ensures that the picture will come out totally in focus, and be razor sharp.. and 2. it removes any of the ambient light in the room in relation to the camera sensor. This then means I have total control over what the camera "sees".
