When you think about all of the wonderful wedding images that are taken at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne this may not be the first one to come to mind. The reason is because this was very creatively taken in a way that could have been anywhere. It was all about the light in this shot. You see, most photographers (and the general public for that matter) all generally think in the same way. They think in terms of background. They will say, "oh, this will make for a nice background" and they go and force the shot to happen that way. The problem with this way of thinking is that "photography" does not care about "background" lol. So, it makes far more sense to first think about the lighting, and then let this dictate where the image should be taken vs. just thinking in terms of the background alone. This is exactly what I have done here. I saw a directional light coming in from the camera right side, and decided to pose my bride in a way to take advantage of this. The result? A masterful image that speaks volume. Take a look at the detail, the texture and the dimension in this show. Also, because I have exposed for the highlights I have created a nice contrast with the background which in turn makes her "pop". This is what leveraging lighting is all about.
